Wrightington Hospital Open Day:Celebrating 50 years of the Charnley Hip ReplacementProfessor Sir John Charnley is recognised as the founder of modern hip replacement, which is now one of the most common operations in the UK. He was a master surgeon, innovator and bio-engineer. His work has been an outstanding contribution to the relief of human suffering. To commemorate 50 years of the Charnley hip replacement we are holding an open day at Wrightington Hospital 24th November 2012 which is free of charge and open to all. Lady Charnley will open the event at 2pm. There will be opportunities to: Take a site tour, including the patient journey in the Information Centre and operating theatres Look round the Charnley museum which includes the world's first clean air operating theatre Join in with talks from our leading Consultants Take part in interactive demonstrations on how surgery was performed and how techniques have changed View displays on Orthopaedic Surgery and medical equipment from past and present Watch a hip replacement on DVD (not for the faint hearted!) Enter our competition and win prizes!
